Overview
When migrating to a new eCommerce platform, your product identifiers (SKUs or IDs) will likely change. Since all RaveCapture reviews, photos, videos, and Q&A entries are tied to product IDs, you’ll need to map your old SKUs to new SKUs to ensure review content remains connected and displays correctly.
This process is called a Re-SKU, and it must be completed before installing RaveCapture on your new store.
Why the Re-SKU Process Matters
Without a Re-SKU, your new product catalog will have different IDs and your existing review content will no longer match.
By processing a Re-SKU before launch, you:
Preserve all historical reviews, Q&A, and UGC
Ensure continuity across review displays
Avoid lost trust signals during launch
Eliminate the need to manually remap content post-launch
⚠️ Do not install the RaveCapture plugin or paste widget code on your new platform until the Re-SKU is complete. If new products sync into the library prematurely, it can block the import.
What Gets Remapped?
Once the Re-SKU is complete, RaveCapture automatically reassigns:
Product Reviews
Photos and Videos (UGC)
Q&A entries
Survey responses (if product-linked)
Product Tags
Product Groups
Product-level settings like blacklist status or syndication ID will be unaffected, meaning they will not change, but they will carry over to the new product_id.
Step-by-Step Re-SKU Instructions
Step 1: Prepare a Mapping File
Export your current products:
Go to Account Settings > Export Data
Select the option to include review counts per product (for prioritization)
Create a CSV file with two columns (no column headers):
OLDSKU123 | NEWSKU123 |
OLDSKU456 | NEWSKU456 |
OLDSKU789 | NEWSKU789 |
Column A = Current product ID or SKU (from your old platform)
Column B = New product ID or SKU (from your new platform)
No headers are needed
All entries must be 1:1 — no duplicates or missing values
Platform Mapping Reference:
Platform | Use as Product ID |
Shopify | Product ID |
BigCommerce | Product ID |
Magento (1/2) | SKU |
WooCommerce | POST ID |
Volusion | Product Code |
Neto | SKU |
3DCart | Product ID |
Step 2: Send the File to Support
Email your mapping file to support@ravecapture.com or submit via live chat. Be sure to include:
Your target launch date for the new store
Any high-priority products or questions
Our team will review the file, confirm it’s formatted correctly, and hold it until just before launch.
Step 3: Uninstall the App from Your Old Platform
Uninstall the RaveCapture app or remove all widget code
This prevents duplicate data or sync conflicts
Step 4: We Complete the Re-SKU
When your new store is ready:
We will process your CSV via our internal admin system
Once complete, we will notify you by email or chat
The following happens instantly:
Reviews, UGC, and Q&A entries are remapped
Product tags are applied to new SKUs
Display widgets will start pulling the correct review data
Note: Changes may take up to an hour to reflect on live widgets due to caching
Step 5: Install the App on Your New Platform
Once confirmed:
Install the RaveCapture app/plugin/extension or manually install code
Add review displays to your new product pages
If you need help, check out our platform-specific integration guides or reach out to support.
Post-Migration Cleanup
After the import, some products may not have matched (e.g., SKUs that didn’t appear in your file). You can:
Use Switch Product in moderation to manually reassign reviews
Submit an updated CSV if you discover additional SKUs later
Best Practices
Communicate early with Support about your migration timeline
Always export and store a copy of your product library before migration
Only send Re-SKU files after verifying new product IDs are correct
If you've already installed the RaveCapture app on the new site, let us know — we’ll help clean up duplicates
