Understand how to use the General, Questions, and Emails tabs to build and manage your Experience Survey

Updated this week

Overview

The Survey Builder is your central workspace for customizing and managing your Experience Surveys in RaveCapture. Whether you're creating a survey for product feedback, brand perception, or post-review follow-ups, the builder provides full control over your survey content, appearance, and delivery logic.

There are three main tabs inside the builder:

  • General – Manage survey settings, activation, and design.

  • Questions – Add, edit, and organize survey questions.

  • Emails – Set your trigger logic, email design, and reminder schedule.

πŸ›  1. General Tab

This tab controls the overall survey settings, including whether the survey is active, how it's shared, and how it looks.

Main Subtab

  • Survey Name – Internal label (not shown to customers).

  • Enable Survey – Must be turned on for auto-send or sharing to work.

  • Disabled Survey Settings (only appears when the survey is turned off):

    • Show Disabled Message – Display a message to anyone trying to access the link.

    • Redirect URL – Automatically send users to another page instead.

  • Survey Title – The headline shown at the top of your survey.

  • Survey Nickname – Used to create the survey URL.

  • Survey URL – Direct link to your hosted survey.

  • QR Code – Auto-generated QR code for sharing offline or in print.

  • Exit URL (optional) – Redirects users to another page after completing the survey.

  • Allow Repeat Submissions – When unchecked, the same customer (email) can only complete the survey once.

Appearance Subtab

Customize the visual design of your survey to match your branding:

  • Fonts and Text Colors

  • Button Text and Brand Color

  • Upload cover page and background images

  • See real-time updates in the preview window

πŸ’‘ Tip: Always preview your survey on both desktop and mobile for best results.

🧩 2. Questions Tab

This is where you add and organize your survey questions.

New Question Subtab

You can choose from multiple question types, including:

  • Text-Based: Free Text, Description, Consent

  • Rating & Metrics: Star Rating, NPS, Slider

  • Multiple Choice: Single or Multi-select

  • Visual & Media: Image/Video Upload

  • Location-Based: Map Question

  • Data Collection: Product Select, Customer Info

  • Advanced Grouping: Question Groups (for theming)

Each question includes:

  • Required Toggle – Determines whether the question must be answered.

  • Private Toggle – Keeps answers hidden from public review displays.

  • Tagging Options – Auto-assign product tags, customer service tags, or visual tags based on answers.

Existing Questions Subtab

  • View all current questions in order

  • Reorder questions with drag-and-drop

  • Edit, duplicate, or delete existing questions

  • Add more questions directly from this view

πŸ”Ž Important: To qualify a response as a Product Review, your survey must include:

  • Product Select

  • Star Rating

  • Free Text

βœ‰οΈ 3. Emails Tab

Controls how the survey is delivered, including automation logic, delays, and reminder emails.

Settings Subtab

  • Trigger Configuration – Choose your survey type trigger (Enterprise Plan only). Options include:

    • Instead of Product/Company Review

    • In Addition to Product/Company Review

    • Follow-up after Product/Company Review

  • Send Delay – Set the number of days to wait before sending.

  • Product Tags – (Product-type only) Limit survey sending to tagged products.

  • Email Content – Customize subject lines, body text, CTA buttons, layout, and colors.

  • Dynamic Tags – Personalize email content with customer/order-specific data.

Smart Reminder Subtab

  • Set up to three reminder emails

  • Customize each reminder’s delay, subject, and content

  • Works similarly to reminder emails in regular review campaigns

Multiple Products Subtab

(Visible only for product-type surveys)

  • Choose how the survey behaves when multiple products are in an order:

    • Send one survey per product

    • Combine into a single survey

    • Only send for the first product

πŸ’‘ Tip: When building product-type surveys, use product tags to control exactly which products the survey applies to.

Best Practices

  • βœ… Preview your survey frequently to ensure mobile and desktop versions look clean.

  • βœ… Disable your survey before making major structural changes to avoid live edits affecting respondents.

  • βœ… Test your survey manually before activating auto-send, especially if using new triggers or product tags.

  • βœ… Use Question Groups to neatly organize related questions (e.g., shipping experience, onboarding feedback).
