How to Use Review Insights for Actionable Product Analytics

The Review Insights feature helps merchants gain valuable, AI-driven insights from customer reviews, identifying trends and opportunities. By analyzing review data, merchants can optimize their product strategy to improve performance and address underperforming areas. This guide walks you through how to use Review Insights to generate actionable insights for your products.

Why Review Insights are important

Review Insights empowers merchants to track customer sentiment over time, revealing what’s working and which products need attention. By leveraging this data, merchants can:

  • Spot emerging trends with products showing positive or negative review changes.

  • Capitalize on opportunities to double down on top-performing products.

  • Address problem areas before they impact business performance by reacting to underperforming products.

Use Cases for Review Insights

  • Seasonal product tracking: Analyze review trends during key sales periods (e.g., holidays) to see which products gain popularity.

  • Product line optimization: Identify low-performing products and remove them or improve based on customer feedback.

  • Customer feedback-driven innovation: Use AI-based summaries to understand what customers like and dislike about specific product features.


How to Use Review Insights

Step 1: Access Review Insights

  1. Navigate to the Review Insights section from your dashboard.

  2. Select the date range to analyze trends. You can choose from the following:

    • Last 7 days

    • Last 30 days

    • Last 3 months

Step 2: Fetch Review Data

Once the date range is set, click the "Fetch Data" button.

  • This reloads the page and runs queries to display the latest insights for the selected time period.

If the page is reloaded after fetching insights, the cached data will be displayed, so you don’t need to run queries again.

Step 3: View Product-Specific Insights

After fetching data, you’ll see 6 product cards on the insights page:

  • 3 Products with Positive Trends: These products have a significant increase in their average review ratings.

  • 3 Products with Negative Trends: These products show a drop in average review ratings.

  • Products are based on the highest magnitude of change

  • Products that have a review count of at least 5% of the total_review_count

    • if there are no products the threshold will decrease by 1% until there are three products with a significant change.

Step 4: Analyze Product Performance

Each product card displays:

  • Product name

  • Average review rating for the selected time period

  • Change in rating (positive or negative)

Products are selected based on:

  • Magnitude of change in rating (either positive or negative).

  • Review count threshold: Products must have at least 5% of the total review count during the selected interval.

    • If no products meet this threshold, it will automatically lower the threshold by 1% until three products are identified.

Step 5: Use the "Analyze" Button to Explore Product Details

Click "View Detailed Insights" on any product card to open a side drawer.

The side drawer will display:

  • Rating and Change values from the main product card.

  • What’s Working Section (AI Summary):

    • This section provides a summary of positive customer sentiment, generated by AI.

    • It reviews free text responses with 4 or 5-star ratings within the selected time period.

Opportunity Section:

  • Offers actionable insights based on the AI summary, helping merchants capitalize on positive trends or mitigate issues for underperforming products.

The three most recent reviews will be displayed at the bottom.


Customization Options for Review Insights

Adjust Date Ranges:

  • Merchants can select between different date ranges to capture trends at varying time scales.

Threshold Modification:

  • The system adjusts the review count threshold dynamically to always provide actionable insights, ensuring at least 3 products are highlighted in each category.

Note: Reported reviews are automatically excluded from the analysis.


Product Performance Insights

Easily sort and search through product ratings over the last 3 months to identify performance trends and make informed decisions. Search in the filter by product name to display relevant results. The following insights are displayed in the Product Performance section:

Rating

  • Displays the average of all the star ratings for that product.

Number of Reviews

  • Displays the number of reviews for the product in the row.

Trend

  • Measures the change in the total average rating per product between the current time and the average rating at the time of the time interval.
